Come on, come all, to see the return of the melancholy genius that is Morrissey. Having started a tour in the U.S. and one in Europe during the summer, Morrissey has been fully promoting his new album, You are the Quarry.

The fifth show by Morrissey at the Wiltern in L.A. was an incredible show by the Manchester crooner. He put on a 90-minute set in which he poured out his soul into the music and captivated the entire crowd of hardcore fans. Opening up with the song “The First of the Gang to Die,” Morrisey set off the tone for the rest of the show. Fan after fan in the pit continued to hop the barrier in order to touch their idol and show their love. He personally thanked all of the devoted fans who went all five nights to see him at the Wiltern, but even Morrissey himself said that they were insane for doing so. His set included six new songs off his upcoming album, and who couldn’t help but be touched when he sang, “This world is full of crashing bores, and I must be one, because no ever turns to me to say, take me in your arms, and love me.” (From “The World is Full of Crashing Bores.”) Another tear jerker was his new song “Let Me Kiss You,” because only Morrissey could think of the words, “Close your eyes and think of someone you physically admire, and let me kiss you... then you open your eyes, and you see someone you physically despise.”

“All the Lazy Dykes” was dedicated to some members of the crowd while “I’m Not Sorry” displayed Moz’ voice at its best. You just can’t help but feel for him with lines like, “The woman of my dreams, she, she never came along, the woman of my dreams, well, there never was one.” Morrissey also pulled out classics like “Everyday is Like Sunday” and “Hairdresser on Fire” and memorable Smiths songs like “There is a Light That Never Goes Out.”

The encore was made up of “Shoplifters of the World Unite,” which made the whole crowd crazy and forced more fans to rush on stage. One couldn’t possibly ask for a better encore. After all these years, Morrissey’s performance has never diminished; he is still one of the best out there. And with the trends of music as they are, Morrissey is correct in saying that “the world is full of crashing bores.” This was simply a sincere and beautiful concert.
